| Discount: | 08/27/08...Had XM service for past 12 months. Renewal amount was $151.70 (ouch!). Called XM on 08/27/08...told them of a promo I had heard about for $77.00 for 1-year serivce. They confirmed and I received the discount with no code required...just for asking and being nice with the service rep (always the best policy when you want a favor). She was very nice! Also requested and received the additional $12 off for placing a CC on file. Yes...that means your account will be set up for "auto renewal" but they told me I will receive a notice in the mail prior to renewal (so...at renewal time next year I will ask for the latest promo offer!) Good luck! |

| Discount: | ZWINBACK still works! Dec 12, 2008After-Market vs. Vehicle Installed!9 Times-A-Charm(I apologize in advance for the length of this comment but want to let others know what I had to go through to get XM radio service.)Please be aware there is a difference between After-Market & Vehicle-Installed radio units. Many of these codes work for Vehicle-Installed radio units. I bought an After-Market unit like the ones that can be purchased at Circuit City, Best Buy etc. The folks @ XM do not want to give the $77/yr rate for “After-Market” units. Those writing in saying they had no problems getting the $77/yr rate for their portables were lucky when they called. Seriously, they were lucky.Being persistent, (since I have read so much to keep trying thanks to this retailmenot.com website) I finally won! To initiate service on my portable “little, non-vehicle installed, after-market unit”, it took me NINE (9) times to call. For those of you who care to read what I endured please continue on:Called twice. Wanted to initiate service on my new portable radio. Being that it is portable and not installed in the car the promotions are not for this type of unit. What the heck? Satellite service to an installed or a portable is the same service. Both reps said the promotions are not for “those” type of portable units.Called a third time. Got a little farther, but once the radio code was given, they said the promo was only good for factory installed units and not “after-market” devices. Rep said I would have to pay the $12.95 price per month and be charged the $14.99 activation fee.None of the Promo Codes mentioned anything about factory-installed units vs. “portables” or “after-market” devices. Bummer is they now have my radio code & they know it’s a portable “After-Market” unit.I read somewhere (I don’t remember if it was one of these many comments) XM had 12 service centers and they can’t all be linked with the same information from the past hour and a half I’ve been trying…so I called again.Rep asked me if my radio was installed. (On my fourth attempt) I said yes. He asked for my radio code and looked up my unit identifying it as an “after-market” unit. Immediately he high-balled me yapping off the highest rates (I’ve seen so far) the “Lifetime - $399 and for an extra $100 bucks I could have the “Best of Everything”. Too high for me and asked for anything cheaper (remembered someone writing…never pay full rate). The guy pushed pretty hard the “Full price - 3 years for $401.45 but currently offering a Promo price of $349.00 for the 3 years”. Oooo, what savings… Yeah right.Since I was this far I kept asking him for something cheaper… He gave me the 2-year rates then the 1 year rate.Nope, still too high. I asked him if he had anything like a 3-month “Free Trial”. Greedy Rep asked me to hold and transferred me to an 1-800 # in la la land. (ha ha, didn’t make a commission off me)I just tried calling (for the 5th time) for new service. Rep said I needed an 8 digit Alpha-Numeric code.No other codes in this website worked. So I just hung up on her.Next two calls (Call 6 & 7) were to 1-800-hold in-la-la land, keeping me on hold for over 25 minutes each call. (Guess they really do not want my business)Call #8… I thought I was going to score! Some cheery, bubbly lady on the other end said she would be glad to help me. Great!!! I worked hard to contain myself not shoving the Promo Code of ZWINBACK expecting her to give me the “No activation fee, $77 yearly rate with a $12.95 bonus credit” I had read about. Dare I ask for the extra 3 free months because I’m such a peach? She asked for my radio code and asked me if it was installed. After giving her the radio code (I was holding my breath…) she asked if it was vehicle installed. Yes ma’am it is in my vehicle-installed (attached to the cig lighter). She asked me for the make and model of my vehicle and where I had purchased the vehicle. The info I gave her was not going to help me today. Politely, she described she didn’t have a $77 Yearly Promo rate for this type of vehicle-installed unit. I asked her what was the difference between my vehicle-installed unit compared to others? It’s the same satellite waves beamed down from the Southern skies, right? The bubbly, spirited tone changed to tough-luck kid, suck it up and deal with it. She explained my radio was an “after-market unit” and it was not on their list to offer the promo rate. Huh? I asked if there was a Promo rate for my “unit” since it is “after-market”. (Worth a try, at this rate anything is possible) I tried to muster up more charm but she wasn’t going to give the “goody” to me. I left the conversation stating she was pushing away a potential XM customer and just hung up.Knowing I just bought this expensive piece of equipment at such a ridiculously low price, tried calling again to see what my chances are so I don’t have to keep watching the Demo Mode over and over. Yes, I could pay full rate but want to save some money to buy accessories for my “little, non-vehicle installed, after-market unit”. (Someone slap a sign on my forehead SUCKER for buying this; I still refuse to pay full rate after what I have read. Uff-da!)Ninth (9) call to XM. Dude comes on the line, says his name so fast, and asks if he can help. Just told him I saw a rate on the Internet for $77 a year and want to sign up. He asked for the Promo Code, heard him type it in, and asked for my radio code, and heard him type that in. Long pause (long enough to fetch a cup of coffee). He then asked me for my name, address, phone #, email and CC#. Heck, I made it this far…I asked him for the $12.95 discount since I’m using a credit card to keep it on file. He told me to ask for the $12.95 discount next year; I was too new of a customer. Fine. (I wasn’t going to argue with him since my “little, non-vehicle installed, after-market unit” might see the light of day after all at a discounted rate) My ninth call to XM Radio paid off. The signal was sent and my credit card was charged $77 dollars 24 hours later. Wow. Merry Christmas to me! Yippee. Oh, and thank you Retailmenot.com. I will tell everyone about this great website. Have a good one. -Enjoying the sounds in Chicago. |

| Discount: | For vehicle subscribers: what if you want to renew? What deal can you get? XM tells me I cant reuse the ZWINBACK. They try to push the anuual packages, which runs $10-$13/month, a little steep after paying $6.41 (or for you, $5.33 if you paid $64/first year, but watch out what happens at expiration time!) After I said I might just let my subscrip. lapse, she told me they just came out with a new Lifetime XM Everything package, $399 and you never have to pay again for your vehicle. You get to transfer it once to antoher vehicle for a smallish fee. Keep your vehicle or two 5-6 years and this package will cost the same as the ZWINBACK. The package will not transfer to a new owner and if you dont take the service, there is no refund, apparently. I cant find this info on website. Also, note: rep said that if you sell car/have accident, your annual package might have partial refund. |

I said that my three month trial was about to expire and that I saw an annual rate of $77.00 advertised on the internet and asked if it was available. The answer was YES. I put it on a credit card and was told that the total including tax would be $88.40 for one year. Easy! |

| Discount: | Code: ZWINBACKThis code still works as of 12/30. I set up a portable unit (it took 5 tries to finally get a rep that would allow me to do it and finally I just had to threaten to take my unit back and not to subscribe to anything for her to budge) and Im glad for this website. They kept saying the deal was only for OEM vehicles, not portable units, but stay at it and dont give up. This was yesterday and then today I set up my wifes subscription using the same coupon, but hers is an OEM, so no problem there. On both situations I did not have to give the coupon code. Good luck! |

Told them I read an online offer of $77 per year less $12.95 credit card/auto renewal discount. Got it no problem. She asked for an 8 digit radio code (not coupon code) so she could input the activation/ new account info into her system. I read her the code off the box and bingo. This was purchased from Crutchfield.com and was an XpressRC after market unit. She did not seem to care about the radio type or factory install. Service will auto renew after 12 months at the then current rate (around $142 a year) unless I cancel. No activation fee either.Whoo! |

They gave it to me with no problems! They didnt ask me for a promotional code, and they didnt care that my unit was portable (I have a new Pioneer XM/MP3 unit). When I inquired about the $12.95 credit for having my credit card on file, they gave that to me, too!One slight warning: When my 1 year is up, they will begin billing me @ $38 per quarter unless I call them back to specify otherwise. So Ill be back here a year from now looking for another sweet deal. Thanks everyone for the tips! This place rules!!! |
